Melbourne is a photographers dream. There are so many interesting or picturesque places in Melbourne that it's hard to pick favourites. However I've done my best, here are what I think are the most instagrammable spots in Melbourne. I've mainly tried to pick instagram shots that are slightly different to the usual ones taken in these places to show a different angle. Do you agree with these locations? Which parts of Melbourne do you think I should have included?
1. Flinders Street Station
Let's start with an obvious one. Melbourne has some amazing architecture and Flinders St Station is one building that is photographed a lot. However you'll find hundreds, if not thousands, of photos of the same view of the station. So why not pop inside, it's equally as beautiful as the outside.
If you do want a photo of the outside of the building and happen to be in Melbourne during White Night you might even get some fantastic shots like this one...
2. Brighton Beach Boxes
No doubt you'll have seen photos of the iconic and colourful Brighton Beach Boxes. There are 82 of them and they've been there since the early 1900's. One of them recently sold for more than $330,000 (that's around £185,000!!) and when you consider that no water or electricity is even connected you realise just how in demand they are. Owners have to be local and are not allowed to sublet the boxes, but they can decorate them and make minor changes. Stroll along the beach to find one with a VW camper painted on it or possibly the most instagrammed of them all - the Aussie Flag.
3. Great Ocean Road
The 12 apostles is the most photographed part of the Great Ocean Road, possibly even of Victoria. And of course you should make sure you take some photos there. But there are so many more locations along the Road to take stunning photos. Keep your eyes peeled for Koala's, there are a fair few hanging around, well they're mostly sleeping.
The picture below is of Cape Otway Lighthouse on the Great Ocean Road. It's the oldest surviving lighthouse in Australia and was often the first thing 19th century migrants saw of Australia after months spent on a ship.
4. St Kilda Pier
Another popular instagram shot is of St Kilda Pier with the Kiosk at the end. The piers history began in 1853, while the kiosk was first built in 1904. Take a stroll down the pier to enjoy amazing views of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay. You may even spot some penguins.
5. Luna Park
Staying in St Kilda, the entrance to Luna Park is also a great shot. Luna Park is a theme park found both in Melbourne and in Sydney. The entranceway may be iconic but how that face says 'fun' and 'great for kids' I'm not sure. I think maybe taking the photo at night does make him seem even more creepy than usual.
6. The State Library of Victoria
Going back to Melbournes architecture, if you appreciate a beautiful building then make sure you head to the State Library of Victoria!
7. Dandenong Ranges
The Dandenong Ranges can be found around 35km east of Melbourne. There are loads of instagrammable spots here, from the Puffing Billy Steam Train to the many stunning gardens. The Puffing Billy Steam Train is a great way to see the forest with your legs dangling out of the train.
Get off the train and make sure you go for a walk!
8. Royal Botanical Gardens
Spend a day at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne and have a picnic! There's a surprising amount of things to do here apart from just enjoying this oasis in the inner city. Go boating on the lake, have high tea in the cafe, visit one of the exhibits, go on an Aboriginal Heritage Walk... Check out https://www.rbg.vic.gov.au/ to find out what's on when you're in town. Get on bus route 605 to get here.
9. View from Eureka Skydeck
Eureka Skydeck is 88 floors up, so as you can imagine the views from the top can be spectacular.
10. Street Art
Melbourne is now very well known for it's laneways and the graffiti, or street art, that can be found in them. One of the most popular is Hosier Lane, although it's worth checking out more of the laneways around town to see what you can find.
