Travelling overseas can help you become a better person. You are opened to new experiences, people, cultures and challenges. Here are a few ways in which travel can help you, be a better you.
1. Travel Reveals the Bigger Picture
Packing a bag and jumping on a big jet plane takes us to a whole new world. We become overwhelmed with endless variations of culture and find happiness in the idea of exploring beyond the comforts of our own home. We return to our 9 to 5 jobs and soon the third world problems that used to drive us crazy seem miniscule.
2. Travel Opens The Mind
By travelling we surround ourselves with a variety of people from across the globe. We expose ourselves to new cultures, languages and ways of life. We become accustomed to the new and unknown and learn to take it in with open arms.
3. Travel Makes Us Flexible
We leave the routine of a 9 – 5 to explore a world of freedom. We realise that at times, things don’t always go to plan. A 7:00pm arrival into Bangkok doesn’t always mean a 7:00pm arrival into Bangkok. We learn to sit back, relax, take it all in and expect the unexpected along the way.
4. Travel Makes Us Fearless
Travelling makes us achieve dreams that we never thought were possible. Bungy Jump? Tick. Skydive? Done! Travel to an unknown country on our own? Easy!
5. Travel Makes Us Appreciate The Important Things In Life
With nothing but a backpack we venture the world whilst leaving materialism behind. We pack what we need and nothing more. We learn to live with the essentials – liberating!
6. Travel Makes Us Realise Who We Love And Why We Love Them
We’ve all been there – we lose touch with our friends at home. We soon realise that our true friends and family stick by us travelling folk. They don’t need a constant update and are there for us when we need them most!
7. Travelling Makes Us Experts At Making Friends
The idea of opening up to another human being seems a lot easier after venturing overseas. We are able to relate to different people and our new found openness and patience help us in social situations.
8. Travel Makes Us Realise Who We Really Are
The final and most important lesson of them all – Travelling forces us to get in touch with who we really are. We surround ourselves with open minded nomads that encourage us to feel comfortable with who we are. Our self confidence allows us to venture to a new city without knowing a single sole and find happiness in the fact that a friendly ‘hello’ from a travelling ‘stranger’ is just around the corner. The idea of being 'lonely' soon turns to 'alone' - and we are OK with that!
