There is no place like Wellington.11:00 AM on Thu 29 Sep 2011

When the sun shines and the wind is nowhere to be heard, get your shoes on and explore the awesomeness that is Wellington.

What to do and see you ask me?? Well that's easy…

First head to the Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum.  The museum is full of fun and exciting exhibitions. The entry is free, plus there's a giant SQUID!  Next take a stroll along Willis Street and Lambton Quay towards the Cable Car, on the way don't forget to do some much needed window shopping. The Cable Car is only $3.50(one way) which won't break the bank. At the top of make sure you get a photo of yourself with the stunning view of wellington below.

The Botanic Gardens is the next stop on the list. Walk through the unique landscape, and beautiful rose gardens, finish the walk with the Bolton Street Memorial Park.  This stroll will take you back to Lambton Quay where you can jump into the next free hourly tour of the Beehive Parliament Building.

After having lunch at Wellington’s famous sweet mother’s cafe take a beautiful walk along the waterfront called “The Writers Walk”. After a coffee at Ka Pai head up Majorbanks Road, next to Embassy Cinemas (across the street from Base) this will take you to Mt.Victoria Lookout, where you can watch the sunset over the wellington harbour. From here head down towards the beach and Oriental Parade. As you walk back to the hostel, the trees twinkle with faerie lights, which remind you of Christmas time.

By now, your tummy is rumbling for dinner, but with such a full on day who wants to cook dinner. The voice of the Base staff enters your mind and you remember being told that Domino's Pizza does a $7 large pizza for Base Guests. Take it down to Basement Bar and enjoy it with a pint or 2 listening to some of the latest tunes and mixing with other travellers.  Every night there are free games and promotions going on in the bar that you can win bar tabs and free nights....even better!  3am rolls around and you make your way back into the hostel, powerade and pie in hand and curl up in a nice warm dorm bed.....ahhh bliss! Let’s do it all again tomorrow!
