Meet Jon – currently backpacking New Zealand with Kiwi Experience
Age: 21 (and three quarters)
From: Birmingham , England
How long have you been in New Zealand for? Only 8 Days! I am travelling with Kiwi Experience
What is your favourite thing about the Kiwi Experience Bus? It’s a great way to meet new people as I am travelling alone
Favourite place in New Zealand? Taupo. I got to see it from the ground and from the sky. We had a really good night out there at Element Bar. The Base Backpackers there was really nice actually. And the pizza was good.
Favourite Kiwi Experience hostel so far? Bazil’s place in Westport. It was raining but everyone was in good spirits. The place was pretty chilled out with hammocks and good music. Everyone on the Kiwi Experience bus pitched in for a BBQ and there was free Wi-Fi.
Favourite activity in New Zealand? Skydive in Taupo for sure – special shout out to Hans my skydive instructor
Kiwi Experience Quote of the trip? After a heavy night, A Danish guy on our bus suddenly said “I think I may have swallowed another 10 cent coin last night”
Were you travelling anywhere before New Zealand? Yes I was in Australia for 3 months
Favourite place in Australia? Byron Bay. It’s really chilled, good beach, good nightlife, good surf and we were there for Australia Day which was the cherry on the cake
Best night out since travelling? Base Backpackers, Magnetic Island. It was Ladies Night so a bunch of the boys borrowed some of the girl’s dresses and we won loads of prizes for putting on a cat walk show. The bar was on the beach front it was amazing. The night ended with me vomiting from the top bunk in my 6 bed dorm. I used my mate’s cap as a towel
Where to next? South East Asia
#1 Travel Tip? Never plan your travels based on the recommendations of others. I was told Noosa would be boring and it ended up being one of my favourite stops in Australia.
Why do you think people should travel? You have 45 years to have a career. Why not make it 44 years and have the time of your life for one of them.
