Base Backpackers crew discovers Fiji.
Fiji is a beautifil Island Nation about 2000k's NE of New Zealand. The country comprises of more than 332 islands, with 110 permanently inhabited.
Fiji has become a very popular Backpacking destination, with awesome beaches, lots of Sunshine, Great food and friendly people.
Last week a few extremely lucky and excited Base Backpackers travel agents went to discover what everyone has been talking about.
We all met at the airport, there were 10 agents from Base Backpacker Brisbane, Byron and Surfers.
We all boarded our Air Pacific flight to Nadi Fiji- yewwwww!
We arrived in Fiji in style! Greeted by Fijian warriors and givin beautiful leis of fresh frangipanis.
After getting VIP treatment in the airport, we met lovely Henry from Feejee experience.
We went to our hostel Aquariaus where we were met by Angie the manager. We had a look around the hostel which was very homely - our rooms were amazing over looking the ocean.
After having a great dinner we went across the road for some “kava”.
The locals all came and joined us as we leant the proper way of drinking Kava “the dirty pond water”-Jenny Tinbillys.
Day two - Trade Day
We where made the Black team “Loaloa” and headed to the Trade day.
At the trade day we met our guide for the whole trip the legendary Alipate.
The trade day was interesting set up with little stations where we leant about the culture, islands and products.
After the trade day we went on Feejee experience to the Coral coast.
On the way we stopped to go Sand boarding - AWESOME !!!
We then headed to lovely Mango bay resort where we stayed the night.
That night after dinner we had more kava then were entertained by an amazing fire show, it left us all breathless.
We headed to Denaru to board our Captain Cook cruises for 2 day 2nights.
The cruise was interesting, probably not in the backpacker market.
The age range was from 50 upwards.
We sailed around the Yasawas which was extremely beautiful, great for snorkeling.
That night we were entertained by song and dances and maybe a few too many cocktails...
We did some more snorkelling in the morning and went to a beach where we were the only ones there.
After chilling on the beach (it was tough but someone had to do it).
We boarded the boat to sail to our next destination.
That night we went to a local church service which was all in Fijian.
After church we mingled with the kids and locals
On the last day of the cruise we went to a local school.
At the school it was very basic. The kids where seriously cute. They performed some dances and songs.
After the performance they took us and showed us around the school.
What the school lacked was stationary and all they wanted for Christmas was school bags.
Please help us and donate some of your loose change to buy these kids some school bags
After the school it was time to head back to Nadi.
We all had to say good bye :( , extremely sad to leave Fiji.
I had such a great time and would definitely recommend Fiji to all backpackers. It caters to all types of backpackers.
The culture, people, land and sea are all so beautiful!
