I was lucky enough to spend an entire week in the beach side town of Paihia in the Bay of Islands. I stayed at Base Backpackers and the hostel was amazing...
Paihia is a chilled out, picturesque, beach side town in the Bay of Islands and is a hot spot for backpackers and travelers. Most visitors hit the beach, use the town as a base to get to Cape Reigna, check out some of the 144 islands, swim with dolphins, scuba dive, parasail, kayak and more!
Base Backpackers is located just 50 metres from the beach - offering a relaxed atmosphere by day, and fun by night!
All rooms have a kitchenette and ensuite and Private and Female Only rooms are also available. I stayed in my Spaceship Campervan. The hostel offers a "Wash & Go" Package which allows campervans to pull up overnight and use the hostel facilities. There is a Pool and a Spa, loads of outdoor decking areas, a cosy common room & kitchen and very, very friendly local staff.
The Pipi Patch Bar is a favourite amongst locals and visitors - make sure you try the Pipi Bomb! There is a nightly BBQ which is a great way to meet new people!
Base offers cheap deals that include accommodation along with activities, a BBQ and a drink. Either way, staff are knowledgable and able to help with any travel plans.
